Wonderful Fundraising for Home-Start Flintshire

Our wonderful Home-Start Flintshire family completed a sponsored walk to raise money for a few different charities and they very kindly named Home-Start Flintshire as one of them.

Their volunteer and family support coordinator were there to meet them at the end to show just how much we appreciate their efforts and the difference that their kind donation will make to us.

30 Mile Sponsored Walk

On Tuesday 30th July 2024, Sarah, our fantastic perinatal family support coordinator, some of our perinatal network team and volunteers, joined by other members of the Home-Start Flintshire team,  walked an inspcredible 30 miles along the Flintshire section of the North Wales coastal path as part of a year of fundraising to celebrate 30 years of Home-Start Flintshire and to raise awareness for perinatal mental health. They raised a fantastic £1000 to create perinatal packages for Home-Start Flintshire families.

The perinatal period can be a very lonely and difficult time for many families and at Home-Start Flintshire we want to encourage as many families as possible experiencing challenging times to reach out and ask for support. Perinatal mental health issues affect approximately 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men! Feelings of guilt, helplessness, fear, loss of identity and being completely overwhelmed combined with the responsibility of their new baby can be too much for some parents but they often suffer in silence for fear of being judged. Peer support during this time can have a positive impact, getting outside, walking and talking to normalise some of these feelings can make the world seem a little less lonely for new and expectant parents.

Well done to all involved. What an incredible achievement!!
